Polyimide

Polyimide is the standard coating for high temperature environments (up to 300°C) in Oil and Gas. This coating is deposited in several thin layers and becomes very hard once cured; thus making the coating ideal for strain and vibration sensing as the stress is guided to the cladding and the core.

Because of the high temperature resistance provided by this coating, the polyimide coating fibers can go through some sterilisation processes and be used in biomedical in-vivo applications.
