Gyroscope

A gyroscope, also known as a gyro, is a sensor which measures angular acceleration. A fiber gyroscope is an interferometric sensor based on the Sagnac effect, where the relative phase-mismatch of two counter propagating beams depends on the rate of angular acceleration. In the fiber gyro counter rotating beams of light, launched in a fiber coil, are interfered at the output to establish which way and at which rate the coil has rotated.
