Fiber In Metal Tube (FIMT)

A construction that has optical fibers encased by a thin walled metal tube that is typically made out of stainless steel (such as Stainless steel 304 or 316) but can be out of other highly corrosion resistant metals such as Incoloy 825 or Inconel 625.  A FIMT is typically not deployed on its own but is usually a subcomponent of a cable.  FIMT’s are utilized for cables that are subsea, in O&G wells, optical ground wire and many other applications.
