Demanding Oil & Gas industry applications require specialty optical fiber chemistries and coatings to withstand harsh environments.
The Oil & Gas industry has been using downhole optical fiber in wells where the temperatures can reach beyond 300oC and hydrogen can also be present. These fibers are used for distributed temperature sensing (DTS) and distributed acoustic monitoring (DAS) for frack monitoring and other process optimization, telemetry for downhole tools, pressure sensing and strain monitoring.
We offer coatings suitable for 150oC, 300oC and beyond, along with a carbon coating over the glass to prevent hydrogen ingress up to 150oC. Above 150oC, our pure silica core single-mode fiber and graded index pure core multimode fiber have been designed and manufactured in a proprietry way to minimize optical loss due to hydrogen exposure.
